Four words – Bourbon Ball French Toast

Our day in Louisville began at Lynn’s Paradise Cafe, winner of the Breakfast Throwdown with Bobby Flay.  The first of the food network restaurants we would visit on our trip, this place did NOT disappoint!  The quirky ambience, friendly staff and delicious food was everything we had hoped for!  Then, after a delicious (and gigantic) breakfast (seriously – David, Kelli AND Daphne had to finish mine!), we hit the road north back into the great state of Indiana, though just barely across the border, to a cavern a ways off the beaten path called Squire Boone Cavern, discovered by none other than the younger brother of Daniel Boone.  The cavern was lovely – lots of continuing carbonic acid activity down there, so the formations are still growing, and they have an enormous rimrock down there as well, as you can see in the pictures below.  Additionally, the whole area around the cavern was really nice.  They had a little old-time village set up around the grist mill there.  Great time.  After that, we headed back in to Louisville to go to the museum district.  We spent the afternoon at the science museum, then stopped by the Louisville Slugger Museum.  From there, we walked along the water’s edge, then up to 4th street live.  After several days of kid-friendly entertainment, David and I decided it was time for Mommy and Daddy to get a little something special, so we stopped into the air conditioning of the Maker’s Mark Bourbon House and Lounge, where David had his first Mint Julep ever, and I had a nice reunion with one.  (The kids had specially made shirley temples and were happy to be sitting down for a bit).  We explored Forth Street Live a bit, had some dinner (with a bit more bourbon for Mommy….), and then a leisurely walk back to the car (don’t worry, David drove) and returned to our Staybridge Suites Hotel to get a good night’s sleep in preparation for tomorrow’s adventure
