I’ve lost it, all right, but *this* time, I’m not talking about my mind, but rather my body. In August of 2011, I decided to get healthy, and I got serious about it. I had started to take steps in the right direction before that, and between 2009 and 2011, I lost approximately 30 pounds, but it wasn’t enough. The first step, I decided was to face the facts and find out exactly where I was at. I bought a scale. And then I weighed myself. I won’t lie, it was hard to do. BUT, I comforted myself with the thought that i only had to get the bad news once. And I decided no punishing myself for “sins of the past”. The important thing to remember is that now I was going to start doing the right thing and I would judge myself on my success going forward, not the number on the scale. On August 12, 2011, I weighed 230#. At 6′ tall, that put my body mass index at 31.2…obese. A healthy body mass index is between 18.5-24.9. Since I’m not particularly big-boned or small-boned….right about average frame for my height, I’d say, I set my sights smack dab in the middle of that range, a BMI of 21.7, which is equivalent to 160# for me. On January 1st, 2012, I weighed myself and I was 160.4. People ask me all the time how I did it, so I thought I’d use my blog as a means of reporting on my journey to better health.
